Morgan read this poem at Jere's funeral for Lexi.
Dear Daddy,
I really feel quite special that Heavenly Father gave me to you,
To be your little princess, your little Lexi Sue.
I know how much you love me, you told me everyday
Jesus needs your help now but you won’t be far away.
I will always remember the times that we’ve shared
By the things that you taught me I know that you cared.
You worried that the things I was learning were more for a little boy,
But knowing the way you did things will always bring me joy.
I loved to bring my tool box and help you as I could,
Cause now dear daddy I can do things exactly like you would!
The rides we took in the big truck spotting Kenworth’s made us happy,
Cause they’re the best…and we don’t like Peterbilt’s , do we Daddy?
Daddy, thanks for taking me to the Prom when I was only three,
They’re aren’t very many girls who are as lucky as me!
To have your picture taken was not something you liked to do,
But I’m sure glad I have the one of me kissing you.
I know you loved to hear me sing when I climbed up on your knee,
Snuggling close to you will always be my most cherished memory.
“You are my Sunshine” was your favorite song to hear,
And every time I sing it now I’ll feel you very near.
Don’t worry about us Daddy, Mommy and me have got a plan,
We’ll work hard and be real strong because we know we can.
Watch over us Daddy, we’ll be with you someday

For those of you who were unable to make it to the funeral, here is Jere's Obituary.
Our beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, Jeremy Douglas Matthews, 32, returned home to his Heavenly Father on May 24 in Salt Lake City, Utah after a brief illness.
Jeremy was born on May 1, 1977, to Douglas and Sandra Matthews in Ogden, Utah. Jeremy was greatly admired as the oldest of four children.
He attended schools in Evanston and graduated from Evanston High School in 1995. He married Melinda Sue Martin on Sept. 17, 1998 for time and all eternity in the Bountiful LDS Temple. They resided together in Almy.
On April 23, 2006, Jeremy and Mindi were blessed with a daughter, Lexi Sue. Lexi meant everything to her father. His world revolved around her. She helped him with her own tool set and followed him wherever she could.
Jeremy was a long-time employee of Uinta County Road and Bridge West and was a volunteer firefighter. He loved pocketknives and CAT and Kenworth equipment. He was a talented mechanic and could fix anything. He was witty and had an excellent sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by many.
He spent a great deal of time helping others and had an especially close relationship with his best friend and brother, Dustin. He loved to be outdoors and enjoyed hunting. He always kept very busy. Jeremy was an active member of the Almy Ward and served in numerous church callings.
Jeremy is survived by his wife and daughter of Evanston; his parents, also of Evanston; sisters Danielle Stevenson (Clint) of Deer Lodge, Mont., Kenna Hill (Jay) of Evanston; brother Dustin Matthews of Evanston, grandparents Keith and Ilene Matthews of Evanston and Kenneth and Shana Vernon of Woodruff, Utah; great-grandmother Leath Eastman of Evanston; and parents-in-law, Aaron and Nancy Martin. Additionally, he is survived by 13 nieces, 19 nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.
Funeral services will be held at the Elm Street LDS Church on May 28 at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Evanston City Cemetery under the direction of the Crandall Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Marion Bishop and her staff at Evanston Regional Hospital, Dr. Catherine DePalma, Karrie Knopf, PA and the doctors and medical staff at the University of Utah hospital.
